Summer Fun

It is so hard to believe summer is basically over. Not that it won't be insanely hot for a couple more months, but Kelton starts school Monday and a week later, Katie will be a preschooler!

While there's not time to blog about every single thing we do, I did manage to snap some pictures of a few of our fun times.

And of course, we've been enjoying some yummy summer treats! Delicious watermelon and ice cream cones. I found some allergy friendly cones at the store, so Katie and Konnor were able to have theirs on a cone for the first time!







And in what has become true Konny style, he thoroughly enjoyed his treats. Go big or go home, right?!!









I can't wait for fall! It's always a busy fun time, plus we're definitely looking forward to come cooler temperatures!

Duck and Cover! Marshmallow Fight!

Sometimes by the end of the day, everyone is a little bored from being inside hiding from the 105 temps outside. Last Friday, I found just the idea to perk us up from our late afternoon blahs.

When it was close to time for E to get home, we prepared.....




When we heard the garage door open,
they could barely stand that anticipation!

Konnor was a little preoccupied.

By the time we were done, everyone was full of giggles and marshmallows! This will be fun to do again in a few months when Daddy is least expecting it!

What a trooper!! (and swimmer!)

E had an appt to get his teeth cleaned yesterday, so I had him pick up Kelton on his way in. He's been very slow to get his permanent teeth and already has some crowding, so I wanted to get an xray to see how everything looked.

When I got to work and saw there was time in the schedule, I decided we should probably just go ahead extract the problem teeth since he was going to be in the office anyway.

I'll admit that as the time got closer for the boys to arrive, I felt a little nervous! Kelton wasn't aware that he has having teeth pulled and even though he's always been a compliant patient, I wasn't sure how he'd react.

While he was in the chair, I didn't hear a peep! I kept sneaking over to make sure things were going okay. I couldn't help it! The extraction of primary teeth (which I can even take some classes to be able to legally preform now) is such a simple standard procedure, but it sure takes on a new meaning when it's your child!


He was done before I finished E's teeth. It was so funny because he didn't even realize they'd pulled his teeth until he saw them!


I wasn't surprised to see almost the entire root remaining because they were not at all loose. I figured his mouth would be a little sore, but he hasn't complained once!



He even went to swimming lessons last night and went off the diving board without assistance. Daddy treated him to ice cream afterwards. Talk about a big day....2 teeth pulled and moving up to the next level in swimming! I'm one proud momma!

Color Sorting Busy Bag

We love busy bags! Katie knows to get only one out at a time and put it away before getting out another. It's so sweet the way she mothers Konnor and teaches him how to play with them.

Last week, I saw Motherhood on a Dime pin an idea for color sorting using paper clips. A couple days later, I was wandering around Dollar Tree (dangerous!) and when I saw the paper clips I remembered the idea and knew I had to make it.

Instead of having little mats to sort on, I wanted containers. Lucky me, I had picked up some little plastic containers from a previous Dollar Tree trip. (I'm so bad, but I love that place.) I knew they would eventually come in handy so I couldn't pass them up! And so the story goes, instead of going to bed at 10pm last Friday like I'd orginally planned, I stayed up until midnight. Again. Oh well!

For supplies, I used...

colored paper clips
little plastic containers
nail polish
modge podge
gallon ziplock bag


First I gave the bottoms of the containers a good coat of polish and let it dry. Take about a smelly project! Whew!


Then because I just didn't trust the polish not to chip off,
I covered it with modge podge.


Pay no mind to how it looks white at first, it dries clear!


When the containers are completely dry (I let mine sit overnight), put the paper clips in the coordinating colored container and store in a ziplock bag.




The kids were more than eager to get their hands on this one and played with it for quite awhile. It's their new favorite and Katie always chooses it first.
